The
Britton Dennis Missionary Initiative

Experience the real Jamaica in a rural community!
ABOUT

ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

The Britton Dennis Missionary Initiative, which is named after my son, is a mission trip to Jamaica that combines a local service project with community outreach and a time for reflection. It allows a person to experience an international mission trip that is close to home, yet far enough away to immerse into another culture. This missionary trip to Jamaica provides a way for us to love and serve others.

  • Please bring light & easy to pack clothing/shoes that can easily fit in your luggage

COMMUNITY PROFLE

COMMUNITY PROFILE

house.png
Lodging

You will be staying at Newton’s home in Jamaica in the heart of the community. You will have ample opportunities to mingle with local Jamaicans throughout the day. The accommodations are NOT luxurious but sufficient & spacious enough to accommodate all of our guests. Volunteers should come prepared to leave the comforts of home behind as this is not Sandals resorts.

secutiry.png
Security

Your safety is our #1 concern. The parish of Manchester is one of the safest parishes in Jamaica and the community of Pusey Hill is even safer. With that being said, Newton will designate trustworthy Jamaicans to monitor and watch over us while in Jamaica. While you may have heard reports about gang wars and violence in Jamaica, it is important to understand that this is because of issues in the larger cities. You will be staying in a safe, rural community.

Food

Breakfast each day will be provided for each team member. They will either be cooked by a local chef or provided by one of the many local restaurants in the community.

Make sure to also bring Jamaica cash on hand in case you want to buy anything else that may catch your eye.

Team members with sensitive stomachs should always carry medicine such as Pepto Bismol, Tylenol, Benadryl, etc.

Bathroom & Showers

We have 2 bathrooms at my house but be prepared to take quick baths in buckets of water. Yes, this is the real Jamrock.

There are also 2 flushable toilets on site, but we also have an outside OUT-HOUSE that can be used as well. When water is low or pressure is down, teams must flush with buckets of water.

The Local Town

The destination of your trip will be in small rural community called Pusey Hill (Pew-zee Hill) in the parish of Manchester. It is about 1.5 hours ride from Kingston airport.

slumber.png
Sleeping

Team members will be sleeping on the floor and should plan to bring a blow-up mattress, light bedding or sleeping bag and a pillow. They have plenty options on Amazon.Com

Flights

Team members are responsible to cover the cost of their round-trip airfare to the Kingston airport and should make plans to arrive BEFORE 2:00 pm on the first day of the trip. Hopefully, we all can end up on the same flight. We are unable to provide transportation after that time.

A FEW NOTES

The first meal provided for you will be dinner the evening you arrive. If your team plans to arrive before lunch, you should bring cash to eat at a fast-food restaurant in Kingston airport.

Return travel should be arranged with your flight departing NO later than 12:00 pm on the last day of the selected trip.

TRAVEL INSURANCE:
All payments are non-refundable and non-transferrable. We STRONGLY suggest all travelers get traveler insurance not only to protect your trip but to have a level of security when traveling to a foreign country. The company Allianz (http://allianztravelinsurance.com) is one I would recommend. You can check them out and browse around to see if you like any options and book on your own. You would need to book the insurance within 7 days of when I sent confirmation email that trip has been book.  Make sure the plan you choose with them covers Covid-19 cancellations OR one that allows you to cancel for ANY reason.
